A few weeks back it was announced that there would be a prequel comic released for the upcoming Darksiders II. Titled, Death’s Door, the prequel comic follows Death in a time period before the Apocalypse. He is on a mission to destroy a rogue demon, chasing the creature across magical realms and even through time. The comic is being worked on by Roger Robinson and it will be released tri-weekly over the course of five weeks.
The first part was just released yesterday and it is available for download over at Dark Horse Digital for 99 cents. Part 1 consists of 12 pages and it follows Death on his quest to Earth. He was instructed by Abaddon to return to Earth and slay a beast. However, since this was not ordered by The Charred Council, Death is unable to use his trusty Scythe. Instead, he must seek out Vulgrim to find a weapon replacement. Of course, Vulgrim won’t just hand it over, and will sell it at a considerable price, the tongue of a gigantic foe…
Having read part 1 of the comic, I’m really enjoying it up until this point. The storyline seems interesting, the artwork is pretty good, and everything seems to fit thus far in the Darksiders Universe. Roger Robinson posted a few preview images of the comic over at his deviantART page and you can see one of them below. This image is of a gigantic monster that Death will encounter in part 1 of the series. Of course in the digital comic, this image is in full color, so it really comes to life. I’ve also included a small sample piece directly from the digital download.
