Darksiders Original Goal was 4-Player Co-Op

In a recent interview, Darksiders II lead designer Haydn Dalton talked about how one of the original goals of the first Darksiders title was to have 4-player Co-op. However due to them being a brand new studio and creating a brand new game, it seemed unrealistic to take on such a project. During the second time through with Darksiders II, the idea of co-op was talked about, but once again the team decided against it since it was still rather difficult to pull off and fans really enjoyed the first game. Here is exactly what Dalton had to say.

“Originally, Vigil wanted to do a four player co-op game. Realistically, though, we didn’t have much console experience and it was a whole new genre for us. So instead we went down the less risky route and focused on a single one of them.

With the second game we thought of doing some form of co-op, but that was still very risky. Plus, people liked what we did with the first game and we didn’t want to take that away from them. I guess we’ll find out when [Darksiders II] comes out whether they still like it [Laughs].
