Darksiders II: 1.4 Million Units Shipped in Three Months

THQ recently released its earnings report for the second quarter of its 2013 fiscal year and we finally have some hard numbers on how Darksiders II has done. Through three months, Darksiders II has shipped 1.4 million units. Though THQ was happy with the finished product of Darksiders II, these numbers were a bit under-performing to what they had hoped for.

Just prior to the release of the game, it was stated that the fate of Darksiders III relied heavily on the sales of Darksiders II. While the game has done well, it doesn’t seem like Darksiders II has sold well enough as of yet to warrant the continuation of the franchise. There is still some hope as there is still the upcoming Holiday season, along with the Nintendo Wii U version that will be releasing in just a few weeks. New THQ president Jason Rubin had this to say about the status of Darksiders II and the future of these types of games.

Observing this and other recent industry releases, one is left with a firm understanding that in the current marketplace, only the absolute top tier of releases is making impact on the game consumer. I now have an opportunity to start impacting our next slate of products and positioning them to compete in this marketplace.

Darksiders II is a wonderful game, but it’s painfully obvious that it was not ready for release. It is loaded with bugs, The DLC, especially The Abyssal Forge, has caused quite an uproar among gamers with the problems it has. I have no Reaper Form as a result, a now choppy frame rate, freezing issues that lock up my PS3, regardless of campaign, and music drop-off throughout. I have never seen this kind of problems in a game before. Someone rushed this product, and to say that THQ was happy with the finished product shows a total lack of proper testing and polishing before launch. It is corrupting games! It is deleting files! I lost my saved game 2 minutes into Argul’s Tomb when it froze. I am so disappointed, and No one seems to read the Facebook page and respond. We are basically left in the dark as to if and when these problems will be fixed. You give us a day. It’s today, yet nothing happened when I tried to play it this morning. Are you still happy with the final product? If this game tanks the series, there is no one to blame but those who pushed this half-assed half-finished game out to us, who are NOT YOUR GAME TESTERS! You pay people to do that, and it is obvious that they failed in their job. Too bad. This series could have been a titan among much lesser titles. Now it will be remembered as a grand vision with poor quality control and a lack of customer support and interaction. If by some miracle you do solve this game’s issues, those of us who stayed the course and play it deserve a really good freebie for our tried patience. I’m talking about level 30 armor sets, like Abyssal Armor, etc. Hop to it!

I agree with the bugs. I was expecting some bugs, especially for a game like this… but the massive audio cuts and the game-ending glitches made the game seem a bit unpolished.

Despite that, I had a lot of fun with it. Minus the story, I thought Darksiders II was better than Darksiders in pretty much every single way. The story was a let down for me, moreso than the bugs. (Although I didn’t have the restart my game or anything like that).

I’m still holding out hope that there will be a late surge for the Holiday season, as well as quality Nintendo Wii U sales. I think there is still a lot that the Darksiders Universe can offer us as gamers. Both from a storyline perspective and the gameplay.

its not gonna sell like a god damn call of duty! for fucks sake THQ dont be fucking sony and screw the gamers cause its not selling like CoD or something lihke that. seriously, if anyone here has a way to talk to the guys at vigil or thq, tell them they cant expect such a thing, they are fuckling crazy for expecting it, and for the sake of the series dont start tacking on multiplayer when its not needed

I don’t think anybody was expecting those types of numbers. Call of Duty sells 20+ million units every single year it releases… For Darksiders II, some analysts said their break even was 2million units. I think around 3 million units for Darksiders II is what they were shooting for… I don’t think they were thinking it was going to go mainstream, like a Skyrim or Portal… but a good niche game that sold a few million copies and made some money.

I just hope the Holiday Push and Wii U sales are enough to warrant a Darksiders III.

What can THQ expect for the holidays? The word is out that DS2 is an amazing game. The word is also out that it is plagued by bugs, some file corrupting, dlc that is untested and that freezes throughout the entire game, not just the dlc. And to rub salt in a huge wound, THQ has not fixed the issues of those with season passes to obtain the new dlc. Not that they would benefit from it, as it is a game killer of sorts. My entire campaign has been infected by The Abyssal Forge, and the Reaper Form is missing. Saving causes lock-ups, so playing to progress is pointless. THQ refuses to answer any requests for help or information, but WILL answer your questions about the impending Demon Lord Belial dlc, and the WiiU version. They want money. We who have the game and dlc have nothing more to offer them at the time, so we go un-answered. God help those who get this game on the WiiU. Chances are it too is affected by bugs and other issues. THQ will eventually ignore them, too. THAT is why there may not be a Darksiders III.

I own the wiiu version and the bugs are not too horrendous, but the most disappointing part of owning the wiiu version is that I will never be able to play any dlc because there are no plans to port it. I am willing to buy every dlc pack that comes out, but either the wiiu version’s sales werent good enough to justify the costs to port or they just dont want wiiu owners’ money.

Darksiders 2 should have been much more polished, between all the delays, and how much was riding on it’s success. I love this series, and will be very upset if we do not at least get a conclusion to the story arc. The first game was fantastic, with (this is speculation) less of a budget, less people working on the project, etc… The second tried a few new things, to varying states of success. The bugs can and eventually will be worked out. I just hope the series isn’t abandoned because someone’s ambition turned out to be a bit more than they planned…

I dont care….DSII was an awesome game and I couldnt wait for it to come out. If you havent played it then you dont know what you are missing and not a gamer at all. You are sheeple mainstream gamer that wouldnt know an awesome game if it slapped you upside the head. I am so heartbroken that there is talk of not making DSIII—I am so in love with this game, I feel as tho I have dumped by a long time love.
    sigh.
