Darksiders II Walkthrough: The Toll of Kings

After speaking the Chancellor at the Eternal Throne, the floating ship will have reached its destination. Run to the north end of the room and head through the door. Use the vines on the wall and ceiling to get across the gap and then head through the door.

Run ahead and speak with Ostegoth if you’d like. You can trade in any rare relics that you have collected for some goodies. You can also collect a Book of the Dead page found just behind Ostegoth. Afterwards, head through the door to enter the Gilded Arena.

Run through the first door and head down the spiral staircase. Go through the first door you encounter as there currently is nothing of interest at the bottom floor.

In this room there is a statue in the center of the room that holds a lantern which shoots out a green ray. Grab hold of the statue and turn it 180 degrees so that it faces the northern wall. The door will open up, so head on through.

Drop down to the floor below and open the two treasure chests to get some goodies. Then climb the vines to get back up to the higher platform. Use a wall run along with the Death Grip to reach the other side of the room. Continue onward through the door.

Run up the steps and a cut-scene will ensue. In order to challenge the arena champion, Death must first find the three Animus Stones. Before doing so, there is a relic and three treasure chests for us to collect in the Arena room. You can skip ahead and make your way through the door at the east end of the room on the second balcony.

Run to the southeast part of the room and use the hand hold to reach the second floor. Turn right and use a second hold, accessing the third floor.

At the east end of the room and you can climb even higher and then use the Death Grip and a wall run to reach a Relic of Renagoth. Afterwards, drop down two levels and run to the north end of the room. Use the nearby handhold to climb up and reach a treasure chest with some loot.

Drop down two more floors, reaching the lowest other than the arena itself. You can work your way around to the southwest corner of the room and climb up the hand hold found here. Continue climbing up to find a treasure chest at the south end of the room. Drop back down one floor and tun back to the north end of the room to find the final treasure chest.

Finally we can progress onward. Make your way to the east end of the room on the second balcony. Go through the door here to search for the first Animus Stone.

Run down the spiral staircase until you find some collapsed stairs. Wall run along the left side to reach a treasure chest containing some loot. While there might seem like there is more to this room, there isn’t much else to find. Get to the bottom of the staircase and head through the door at the end of the hallway.

This room has a gauntlet of skeletons and even some skeleton warriors. Use your ghouls if you have them to defeat the enemies. After all of them have been done away with, head through the door at the west end of the room. Run down this corridor and head through the next door.

Right when you enter this room, run over and collect the boatman coin near the southwest part of the room. Afterwards, climb on the steps and stand on the floor switch, causing the nearby gate to be lowered. Use the Death Grip to grab a shadow bomb and then toss it at the corruption crystals at the south end of the room. Run over and open the treasure chest to get some loot.

Once again step on the floor switch and grab a second shadow bomb. Toss it over to the corruption crystals at the southwest part of the room, near the statue that is shooting the green light. Use the Death Grip to grab onto the lantern that falls to the floor.

Carry the lantern and place it on the floor switch, causing the gate to remain lowered. Walk near the shadow bomb and perform a number of wall runs and jumps to get to the northern part of this room.

Walk around to the west end of the room and push in the switch to lower the nearby gate. Use the Death Grip to grab the lantern. Carry the lantern into the next room to the north.

Place the lantern into the statue and then rotate it 180 degrees. This will cause a green light to shoot out, opening the nearby gate.

Run northward down the pathway and press the action button. Death will change into his Reaper Form and grab the Animus Stone. As you walk back a number of Scarabs will appear, but they shouldn’t give Death too much trouble.

Backtrack to the statue that was shooting the green light. Just to the side, you’ll now see that the gate has been lowered, so head down this pathway and go through the door. Turn to the left and you will see some writing on the wall. Follow the coordinates to escape the Soul Arbiter’s Maze. This triggers a side quest that will be covering later on. Continue eastward and open the treasure chest to get the dungeon map.

Use the nearby wall peg to climb up to a wooden plank. Jump over to the wooden beam and pull the lever nearby.

Back within the Arena, run over to the northern area of the and use the Death Grip on the hoop. Death will insert the Animus Stone, triggering a door to open up, as well as a flock of enemies to appear.

Defeat the enemies and use the gate where they passed through to get back up to the first balcony. Climb up to the second balcony at the southwest part of the room and then head through the now unlocked door to the west.

Once you enter this room, follow the green light into the next room. Climb the steps and grab the shadow bomb that is off in the distance to the west. Turn around and use this on the nearby corruption crystals. Follow this pathway to reach a treasure chest containing some loot.

Grab a second shadow bomb and return to the room with the green ray of light. Use the shadow bomb to destroy the corruption crystals here to find another shadow bomb pod. Return to the statue with the green ray and turn it so that it faces westward. Grab the nearby shadow bomb and then use it to destroy the corruption crystals.

Run back to the shadow bomb and follow this corridor. Perform a some wall runs and jumps to get the boatman coin located here. On the other side of this gap you will find a second statue. Rotate this statue so that the beam is shooting westward. Cross the bridge that is created to collect a Book of the Dead page.

Now rotate this statue so that it faces southward and run to the next room. Open the nearby treasure chest to get some goodies. Continue southward and take the first right to find another Soul Arbiter’s Scroll.

At the far southern room you will find a lantern and as soon as you pick it up, you will get ambushed by a herd of skeletons. Drop the lantern to defeat these boney does. Pickup the lantern and return to the previous statue. Walk to the room to the east and place the lantern onto the floor switch on the ground to lower the gate.

Return through the pathway at the north end of this room by using some wall jumps to get back to the shadow bomb. Work your way around so that you are now on the other side of the room where you just dropped the lantern on the floor switch. From the other side of that gap, use the Death Grip to grab the lantern.

Drop the lantern near the first statue and then once again rotate this statue so that it is facing southward. Grab the lantern and then climb up the circular steps at the end of this hallway. Place the lantern onto this statue, creating a beam of light, and extending the bridge across. Run across the bridge and head through the door.

As you progress down the spiral steps, turn around once you fall down and you’ll find a Relic of Etu-Goth. Continue heading down the steps and go through the door at the end of the pathway.

Destroy all of the gravestones in this area and skeletons will appear from underground. Defeat all of the enemies found in this small chamber and a treasure chest will appear with some loot. Walk southward and you’ll be ambushed by some scarabs as well as a new Skeletal Archer. As its name suggests, this enemy will shoot arrows towards you. Use some ghouls have you have them with you and defeat all the enemies here. Afterwards, run over and grab the second Animus Stone.

Once you have the stone, a gate will open at the east end of the room. Run on through and continue onward through the next door. At the south end of the room, scale the wall to reach the higher platform. Run across the wall and crush all the crates and pots to find a boatman coin. Afterwards, climb the wall at the east end of the room, using the Death Gip to reach the top.

Once you reach the top, turn around and you’ll see a hoop near the ceiling. Swing over to the other side to find a treasure chest. Swing back across and pull the nearby lever to get back to the Arena. Run over and place the second Animus Stone.

With the second stone in place, the door at the north end will open up. Climb up using the passage at the northwest part of the room and then head on through. You will fight several skeletons in this room, as well as a brand new Skeletal Champion. This is the most powerful of these boney creatures, but should give Death too much trouble. Use some ghouls if needed and tear through these creatures. Afterwards, head through the door at the other end of the room.

Go through the passage on the right and follow it through to the next room. Here you will find a second gauntlet of enemies. Once again use whatever tactics needed to defeat these creatures. Defeat the seemingly endless amount of enemies and then head through to the room to the west.

There is a throne on the north end of this room and if Death pushes in the switch, the throne will turn around. What you need to do is first step on the floor switch to raise the drawbridge. Use the Death Grip to grab the shadow bomb found here. Walk over and stand at the throne. From here toss the bomb to the switch and then shoot it with redemption, allowing you to turn to the next room along with the throne.

Run ahaed and it will appear that you are about to get ambushed by some more skeletons. However a giant Scarab Hulk enters the room, destroying all the skeletons in the process. This larger bug like creature shouldn’t give Death too much trouble, as long as you evade its attacks. With the enemies all defeated, run over and grab the final Animus Stone.

Run over and pull the nearby switch. The throne will turn, but much more slowly, allowing Death plenty of time to run on over. Cross the bridge, which is now elevated and head through the door at the other end. Run back to the Arena and place the third Animus Stone.

The arena champion will now make his appearance in the form of Gnashor. Gnashor will start of as an underground creature that occasionally comes up from the ground, before quickly burrowing. As soon as it pokes its head out, use the Death Grip to grab at it. Run over and slash away with your weapon.

After several hits, Gnashor will join up with its skeleton, creating a massive bone creature. Gnashor will slowly walk around the room, slashing towards Death with its hands. It will also use the ball and chain to try and smash Death. Keep your distance and in between Gnashor’s attacks, use the Death Grip and slash away. After a few hits, dodge away to avoid its attack.

After taking some damage, Gnashor give out a loud scream. Use the Death Grip to pull of its skull and deliver some serious blows. Repeate this process until Death has pulled off its skull for the last time, taking the Arena Champions head with him.

After Gnashor has been defeated it is now time to head back and visit with the Chancellor. The quickest way is to use Fast Travel to return to the Eternal Throne. Run up the steps and show the Chancellor the skull of Gnashor. This will trigger a cut-scene where Death finally can speak with the Lord of Bones.

Death will be given a new ability, Interdiction. This will give Death power of command over the Dead Lords of the Abyssal Plains. Before leaving the Lord of Bones, be sure to search behind his throne to find a Relic of Etu-Goth.
