Darksiders II Walkthrough: Stains of Heresy

After collecting the Rod of Arafel, return to the Crystal Spire and speak with The Archon. The Archon will summon an angelic beast, allowing Death to reach The Ivory Citadel. While riding on the beast, Death does not need to do anything, as it will take you right to your destination.

Enter the first room and you’ll find that Corruption still fills this area. Walk to the left and climb the wall to reach the higher floor. Pull the lever and you’ll cause the platform with the light orb to drop down below. The orbs together will clear the corruption. Drop down and head through the door.

Climb the steps and you’ll encounter a Vengeful Spirit. You can defeat these creatures fairly easily with a few simple Scythe strikes or with shots from Redemption. On the path to the right you will find a boatman coin, so be sure to grab it. There is a peg where Death can climb up, but the corruption crystals prevent you from reaching the top. Run across the area and Death Grip across the gap before heading through the door.

Continue onward to the next room and you’ll find a large pool of corruption that fills the room. The door at the east end of the room is the only one you can reach for now, so head on through. Defeat the spirits in this hall and continue to the next room.

Once you reach this open courtyard, run just around the corner to the right to find a treasure chest with some goodies inside. There are some corrupted angels in the distance, and if any of them draw near, defeat them with a few basic attacks.

Climb the steps and continue onward through the hole in the wall. At the end of the hallway, climb up the wall to reach the second floor. Wall run across the hole to find a treasure chest with some goodies. Run to the other end of the hall and then head back outside.

After an overview of the courtyard, use the Death Grip to swing over to the lower platform. Defeat the corrupted angels that appear and be sure to collect the boatman coin at the southwest part of this platform near the corruption crystals.

If you look at your map, you will see a treasure chest near the corruption crystals. Walk to the end of the ledge near the wall and drop down to the floor below. Open the treasure chest to get the dungeon map. Climb back up the wall.

Glance at the wall beyond the corruption crystals and you’ll see a peg. Wall run over to the peg and then perform a series of wall jumps to get across the gap. Walk around to the southwest portion of this area and you’ll find another boatman coin.

There is a circular floor switch in this area. Furthermore, there is a large circular area just across. Stand on the larger circle and use the Soul Splitter to create a Reaper statue. Run over and step on the smaller circle, causing the nearby gate to open.

Switch to the other soul and head east through the barrier. Climb up the hand hold to the north and run over to the nearby switch. This will open the larger circle, causing the Reaper statue to fall to the floor below. Return back to your normal Death form. Run over and climb the hand holds to get back up.

Climb over the wall to the east and defeat a number of corrupted angels that are found here. Walk to the southeast corner and grab a shadow bomb using the Death Grip. Toss it at the nearby corruption crystals to the south to blow them up. Grab a second shadow bomb and toss it at the corruption crystals to the northeast. Climb back over to that area and pull the lever that was guarded by the crystals.

This opens up the small gate where the small stream of water is found. Go through this small gate to the east and run around the corner. Here you will find the Goldbringer, a powerful Scythe that Death can equip.

Run back over to near the shadow bomb and Death Grip across the gap. Go through the door to the south. Drop down and break the barrier found here to get an item known as the Voidwalker. For those of you who played the original Darksiders, this item should be familiar. Death can use this item to create and travel through portals.

Right away you’ll have to make use of the Voidwalker. Shoot the nearby blue circle to create a first portal, and then shoot the one at the second floor to create a second. Go through the portal to get back to the second floor and then head back through the door.

Swing back across and defeat the corrupted angels that appear. Use the Voidwalker to activate the nearby portal. Look to the north and you’ll see another portal in the distance. Activate this portal as well, but don’t quite run through yet. Instead, grab another shadow bomb and toss it through the portal to break the corruption crystals. Go through the portal and open the treasure chest that has appeared.

Wall run along the nearby peg once again and backtrack all the way to the portal we were just active. Activate the portal and this time activate the portal across the gap to the East. Note, if a portal is ever activated, you can aim the Voidwalker at it and use it again to deactivate the portal. Go through the portal to reach the eastern portion of the courtyard.

Run to the northeast part of this area and pull the lever. Drop down to the floor below and run around the corner to find a treasure chest. One of the corridors has a portal on the wall and another has a portal on the ground. Create two portals but be sure to make the ground portal a charged portal, so that when Death comes out of it, he will spring upwards. Do so and you’ll find yourself back outside at the east courtyard.

Swing across the gap using the Death Grip and then walk forward to encounter an enemy Ayfid. They will charge up some power and unleash it towards Death. Just watch for the glow and avoid the attack. Defeat a few of these Ayfids and progress to the next area.

Use the voidwalker to activate the nearby portal, as well as the one to the north. Travel through and defeat the corrupted angels found in this area. Walk to the northeast part of this platform and collect the boatman coin found here.

Activate the nearby portal and then look to the south and activate the distant portal. The two light orbs will erase the corruption that fills this area. Walk across the bridge to the southeast and defeat a number of vengeful spirits that appear. Just around the corner is another boatman coin, so be sure to pick it up.

There is a hole in the tower so drop down to this area. There are two portals found here and you want to activate them using a charged Voidwalker. We’ll return to this room shortly.

Climb the steps to the top of the tower and head through the door. Defeat a series of Ayfids and some corrupted angels to unlock the doors. Stand in the center of the room and use the Soul Splitter. Have one of Death’s souls climb on one of the levers and have the second of the souls climb on the other. This will cause the Reaper statue to drop down below, through the portal that was created, and out the window via the lowered gates.

Death will automatically appear back outside this tower. Climb the wall using the nearby hand holds and pegs. Use the Death Grip to reach the top of the tower. Use the Voidwalker to activate the portal. Run to the northwest part of the tower and look down to find a second portal. Activate this portal and the two light orbs will erase the liquid corruption.

Jump into the water and follow its flow. After you drop down twice, turn around and collect the Relic of Renagoth that is found here. Follow the water all the way until you reach some corruption crystals. Deathgrip the nearby shadow bomb and blow up the corruption crystals.

Climb the vines and you’ll find a strange looking creature that will disappear almost instantly. Don’t mind this creature for now. Run forward and head through the door. Continue onward to get back to the central room of the Ivory Citadel. Water is now flowing from one of the fountains, but corruption still flows from the other. Run around and head through the door to the west. Follow this chamber to reach the west courtyard.

Climb the short steps and jump off the ledge to the right. You’ll find a traesure chest just around the corner. Climb back up using the hand holds.

Travel to the south end of this area and and drop down to the area below. Run to the next area and you’ll encounter an enemy Corrupted Champion. As the name suggests, this is a stronger version of the corrupted angels that we’ve previous fought. After the initial champion has been defeated, a few additional creatures will appear.

Continue onward to the next room and walk down the corridor. You’ll once again see that lightening flash of an enemy and it will immediately disappear. You’ll reach the western tower and there is a crack at the floor. Before heading down, go south through the door and collect a Book of the Dead page that is just around the corner.

Drop down to the bottom of the tower and you’ll find a portal with a light orb. Ignore this for now and head outside. Defeat the enemies and a Death Grip hoop will appear. Latch onto it and swing over to the hand hold. Wall run over to the wooden peg and then perform a series of wall jumps to reach a hand hold. Climb up the wall and you’ll find a series of levers, as well as a push switch. Just around the corner you’ll find a Relic of Renagoth.

Ignore the levers for now and just push in the switch at the southeast part of this area. This opens the door that leads back to the West Tower. Just around the corner from the switch is a portal, so use the Voidwalker to activate it.

Make your way over to the two levers and use the Soul Splitter. Have one of Death’s Soul turn the south lever first. This will lower a nearby portal. Run over to the south portion of this area and face northward to see a portal. Activate it using the Voidwalker.

Now switch back to Death’s other soul and release the lever, raising the south portal. Run over the portal at the far south end of this area and within the portal, you’ll be able to activate another portal. Use a charged up Voidwalker to activate this inner portal.

Run back over to the north lever and turn it, causing the northern gate to lower. While holding the lever, switch back to Death’s other soul. Reopen the southern portal and jump on through. Since you had a charged Voidwalker, Death will spring on through to the next area.

Pull the gate nearby to open the door. Revert back to Death’s normal form and then pass through this door that just opened. Continue northward to this next room.

Wall run over to the wooden peg to get across the gap. Defeat the corrupted angels that appear and open the treasure chest to get a Skeleton Key. Climb the wall and use the shadow bomb to blowup the nearby corruption crystals. This will grant Death easy access to where he first entered the western courtyard.

Climb the long set of stairs to the west and open the locked door using the Skeleton Key. Use the voidwalker to open up a portal here. Run back down the stairs, jump off the balcony to the right and then travel back westward. Go tot he west tower and drop down to the area below. Activate the portal here and the two light orbs will clear the corruption.

Jump back through the portal to get back to the top of the tower. Run to the north and drop down to the water below. Once you drop down once, turn around and grab the Relic of Etu-Goth. Follow the water to near its end where you will see a shadow bomb down below. Jump off and then down to the treasure chest where you previously got the Skeleton Key.

With the liquid corruption now gone through this area, pass through to the north and you’ll find the second of GnoMAD’s Gnomes.

We want to return all the way to the top of the tower. Once you’ve done so, run to the south and use your Death Grip twice on the two loops to reach a treasure chest. Travel eastward and you’ll get to a door.

Continue onward to get back to the Ivory Citadel’s central chamber. The water is flowing, but there is still some corruption flowing from the northern chamber. Walk forward and defeat the enemies that appear. Run across to the east side of the room and head through the door. Go through this small chamber to get back to the east courtyard, this time on the highest platform.

Go through the next door and then drop down to the water below. Be sure to collect the boatman coin that is nearby. Climb up and head through the door to the left to get back outside.

At the southwest part of this room you will find two portals. Use the Voidwalker to activate both of them. Climb down then steps to the northeast and open a treasure chest for some goodies. On the lower part of this area, make your way to the portals and use the Death Grip to swing through the portal.

Once you go through the portal, look directly above you to find another portal. Use the Voidwalker once again, but this time charge a shot to activate this portal. Go back through the nearby portal, and the higher portal will shoot Death towards a nearby wall. Wall run along the wall and use the pegs to reach the other side.

Be sure to pickup the boatman coin that is against the wall. Look to the north and you will find two more portals. Activate the top one normally and then creature a charged portal for the one below. Wall run over to the first portal and it will shoot Death across to a wall, where he can climb up to a hand hold.

Walk around the corner to the main chamber and you’ll encounter an enemy Sycophant. This is the creature that you’ve seen periodically teleport as you’ve traveled throughout the area. They have an aura of electricity around them and can teleport around the room. Your best bet is to use the Death Grip to pull them close and then slash away with your sword.

Progress onward and you’ll find the first light orb here, as well as a portal. Ignore them for now and collect the Book of the Dead page just to the west.

Now head southward and you’ll eventually reach a lever. Turning this lever rotates the circular wall to the east. A fairly simple Soul Splitter puzzle can be found here. Use the Soul Splitter to creature a reaper statue. Have one of Death’s souls pull the lever, rotating the room.

Switch to Death’s other soul and pull the platform out from the circular room. Revert back to Death and then use the Soul Splitter once again, this time while standing on the platform. Pull the lever once again and have Death’s other soul push the platform, along with the statue into the circular room. Revert back to Death’s normal form and the wall will turn.

The portal to the east is blocked off by corruption. Run to the south to find another lever. Before doing anything, drop off the ledge to the south and grab the Soul Arbiter’s Sacred Scroll. Use the Voidwalker and activate the portal down here.

Climb back up and once again use the Soul Splitter. Have the first soul turn the lever, revealing a portal. Switch forms and use the Voidwalker to activate the portal.

Revert back to Death’s normal form and drop down to the platform below. Don’t step through the portal, but instead, look through the portal and you’ll find a deactivated portal. Use a charged up Voidwalker to create a portal within the portal. Doing so might deactivate the portal you were just looking at. If so, reactivate the portal.

Once again use the Soul Splitter and pull the nearby lever. Now have the other Soul go through the portal and it will shoot Death into the circular room that is nearby. Run over and open the treasure chest to the west.

With the warp portal to the south still activated, revert back to Death’s normal form. Run back to the northern circular room and use the Soul Splitter while inside. Exit the circular room and drop off the ledge just to the right. Climb the hand holds and have Death activate the distant portal.

Switch forms and have Death’s other soul pull the lever at the south end of this room. This will cause the two orbs in this area to resonate, causing the southern orb to be charged with energy.

Now pull the lever back and the southern orb and the middle orb with resonate, causing the corruption to disappear. Revert back to Death’s form and head east.

Activate the portal found here and then enter the large circular chamber. Look to the ceiling and activate another portal, cleansing all the liquid corruption in the process.

Be sure to investigate the northeast part of this area to grab a Relic of Khagoth. Run down the water channel and be sure to open the nearby treasure chest for some goodies.

Travel to the end of the waterway and then wall run over to the portal. Activate the nearby portal and then activate a second portal through the crack in the wall. Jump through the portal and then fall down the hole below.

Turn to the right and dive down into the water. Search the area to find a boatman coin. Resurface and then follow this linear path and pull the lever near the locked door. Go through to get back to the main chamber. Water is now flowing throughout the dungeon, allowing Death to finally reach the northern door.

In this next room, be sure to grab the Relic of Etu-Goth behind the statue to the left. Activate the portal that is directly ahead. Face southward and look up to the floor above. Activate the portal with a charged Voidwalker and then head on through.

Look to the west and you’ll find a treasure chest. Activate the portal above it and then drop back down the bottom floor. Activate the bottom portal again and then head on through to reach the treasure chest.

Drop down to the bottom floor and activate the bottom portal once again. Turn around and once again used a charged Voidwalker to activate the top portal. Go on through and then wall run over to the northern door. Walk on through to take on one of the dungeon bosses. Climb the steps and you’ll encounter Jamaerah the Scribe.

If you try to get close to Jamaerah, a vine will come out and attack Death. Additionally, as Death circles around the room, Jamaerah will shoot a green blast towards you. There are multiple ways to go about defeating Jamaerah. One way is to use the Voidwalker to open up one of the many portals in this room. Then use the Voidwalker to activate the portal on the exact opposite side of the room.

Walk around the room and stand in front of one of the portals. When Jamaerah is about to launch one of its green blasts towards you, dodge out of the way and it will travel through the portal, hitting Jamaerah in the back. This will stun the boss momentarily, allowing Death to run up and deliver a number of sword slashes.

A much easier way to harm this boss is simply by summoning ghouls. They’ll charge up to Jamearah, distracting its vine while also doing considerable damage itself. Sneak behind Jamerah and hack at the boss.

After Jamaerah has taken considerable damage, he will float up to a higher lever and then come crashing down to the floor. Stand along the perimeter and jump over the shockwave that is unleashed.

When Jamaerah is near his death, he will once again float to the air. From the air he will unleash a laser strike towards Death. A portal has appeared directly underneath Jamaerah. Use the Voidwalker to activate this portal and then used a charged Voidwalker strike to activate any of the exterior portals on the higher floor.

Drop down through the portal below and Death will be shot out of the upper portal. Use the Death Grip to grapple on to Jamaerah and then deliver a series of hits to defeat the boss.

After defeating Jamaerah, he informs you that the Archon is the one who has the key. Speak with Jamaerah further if you’d like, but then fast-travel back to the Crystal Spire to confront the Archon. Climb the steps to battle against the Archon.

The Archon has the power to teleport throughout this circular battlefield. Furthermore, using the Rod of Arafel, he will shoot out projectiles towards Death. Just run around the area and evade the Archons attacks. You can run closer to the Archon and deliver some hits of your own, but be sure to dodge out of the way. If you have Exhume, summon some ghouls to do the dirty work.

After taking some damage the Arhcon flies in the air and continues to shoot projectiles towards Death. He’ll also fly just above Death and come crashing down on top of you. When the Archon is preparing to come crashing down on Death, you’ll see a purple target on him. This clues you in that you can jump towards him and use the Death Grip.

Continue avoiding the Archon’s attacks and whenever you have the opportunity, Death Grip over to him and deliver some strikes of your own. Eventually the action button will appear on the screen. Pressing it causes Death to take on his Reaper form, where he will cut the wings off this angel.

The Archon now will due battle from the ground. Avoid his attacks and when you can get up close, deliver a fury of attacks yourself. If the Archon, be sure to dodge away as an attack is coming. You can also use Exhume and have the ghouls do much of the damage.

When the Archon is just about near death, he will grow some corrupted wings, regaining his flight ability. He will fly in the air and dash towards Death. Avoid this attack and keep on fighting him the way you have. Once the battle draws close to an end, Death will perform the finishing touches and you’ll be rewarded with the Angel Key.

This concludes Death’s adventures through Lostlight. Use Fast Travel and return to the Crowfather at the Tree of Life.

Speak with the Crowfather and he’ll open another portal, this one leading to Shadow’s Edge.
