[edit] Overview

The archangel Abaddon was once a valiant warrior of the Light, feared by Hell's minions and respected by the angels who served under him. His fierce determination to rid the world of infernal corruption was as strong as any weapon. But in the heat of battle, even an iron will can be sundered.

[edit] Death's Door

In the prequel comic Darksiders II: Death's Door, Abaddon instructs Death to slay a rogue demon that has been let loose upon Earth. Death will agree to do so and he sets off on his quest. Abaddon kick-starts the events in motion with this request, but he does not play a role in the story.

[edit] Darksiders

Abaddon is responsible for the pre-mature occurrence of the Apocalypse. He planned to break six of the Seven Seals, preserving the Seventh Seal in order to prevent the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from appear during the End-War.

Abaddon has help from Ulthane and the Archangel Azrael in breaking six of the seven seals and this starts the Apocalypse. Abaddon led the Hellguard into combat during the first desperate hours of the Apocalypse, slaughtering uncounted demons- until the Housman War distracted him. An instant's hesitation was all that the demon Straga needed to crush Abaddon and drag him into the depths of Hell. The Army of Light has yet to recover from the shattering loss of their champion. Uriel is the successor of Abaddon as the new leader of the Hellguard.

After Abaddon was defeated by Straga, Azrael took him to Eden. Abaddon heard from Lilith and is given the choice of whether he wants to serve in Heaven or to rule in Hell. Abaddon chose the path of ruling in Hell and thus becomes The Destroyer.

[edit] The Destroyer

Main article: The Destroyer

After Abaddon becomes the Destroyer and the ruler of the armies of Hell, he appoints five demons as his Chosen, that battle with the Angels and rule over areas of Earth. The Destroyer has a face-off with War at the end of Darksiders and after War defeats his demon phase, he will then take on an angelic look. During his last breaths, he pleads to Uriel for help, but Uriel responds with, "Reap what you have sown, betrayer." War will then kill Abaddon with the Armageddon Blade.

As the Destroyer, he takes over control of Hell's armies, appoints five powerful demons as The Chosen and annihilates all of Humanity as well as most of the Hellguard's forces. He retains his personality throughout his transformation.

In the end, Abaddon engages War in battle as his Dragon form. However, War proves too strong for Abaddon and his form shifts back into his angelic form, which has been corrupted and is now similar to a Dark Angel form. He is defeated by War, and his wings are torn off. He murmurs to Uriel for help, who responds with "Reap what you have sown, betrayer." and is finally impaled by War with the Armageddon Blade.
