[edit] Overview

Death is not always a cacophony of death cries and armor-beating. Sometimes it is a muffled tchink... a silent pause... and a sharp point through the heart.

The Abyssal Chain is a supernatural gauntlet forged to deliver such a fate. It fires a spearhead out of its engraved mouth with blinding speed, unspooling a chain behind it. This chain can be retracted to drag a dying foe to an even fouler fate. Or, it can pull the Hook and its master skyward to swing across the wastes.

[edit] Darksiders

The Abyssal Chain is a ranged item that War acquires in Darksiders. It is a hookshoot that will bring War over to distant items and landscapes, as well as grab certain distant items and bring them over to him.

War will use the Abyssal to traverse across gaps in dungeons to reach previously unreachable areas. In some cases, War will latch onto higher objects and will use the abyssal chain to swing himself over to distant platforms. At times, War will use the Abyssal Chain a number of times consecutively to traverse across much larger areas.

[edit] Acquiring the Abyssal Chain

War acquires the Abyssal Chain while in the Iron Canopy dungeon. When he first gets it, the Reach Out & Touch Somebody Achievement or Trophy will be unlocked.

[edit] Puzzle Solving

In addition to navigating across gaps, War will often times need to use the chain to solve puzzles. This could be as simply as grabbing a distant bomb with the chain and tossing it against red barriers to blow open a pathway. For some puzzles, the Abyssal Chain is used alongside the Voidwalker in solving more elaborate puzzles, in particular within The Black Throne.

[edit] Enemies

The Abyssal Chain cannot actually defeat enemies, but it can be used to latch onto certain ones and draw War closer. For smaller and some flying enemies such as Duskbats, War can use the chain to grab them and pull them over. These enemies will be temporarily stunned, so War can easily defeat them with simple attacks.

It is required that War uses the Abyssal Chain to defeat some large enemies, such as the Loom Warden within the Iron Canopy. War will also use it against the dungeon boss of the Iron Canopy, one of the Chosen, Silitha.
