[edit] Overview

Angels float on luminous wings and are quite agile. They carry far superior weaponry than their Demon adversaries, including Heavenly Swords and Redemption cannons. They also have more advanced armor than their demon counterparts.

After the Apocalypse, the armies of Hell won the battle and blocked the portal, preventing the Angels from return to the Heaven. Thus the Angels were left stranded on Earth and over the 100-year period from the Apocalypse to the time period where Darksiders takes place, their numbers have dwindled. It is unclear whether there are still Angels living within the Kingdom of Heaven.

[edit] Characters

There are several notable Angels that are found throughout the Darksiders Series. All three of the named angels are also Archangels.

[edit] Abaddon

Main article: Abaddon

Abaddon led the army of light during the Apocalypse. During the End War, Abaddon will battle with the Chosen, Straga. However, he will fall victim, and many believe this causes The Charred Council to believe Hell was victorious in the End War. It is revealed towards the end of Darksiders that Abaddon is The Destroyer.

[edit] Azrael

Main article: Azrael

Azrael is the narrator in Darksiders, and is first encountered as a prisoner within The Black Throne. While in The Black Throne, Azrael reveals that he was manipulated by Abaddon and destroyed six of the Seven Seals. War tells Azrael that he will kill all who destroyed the balance. However, Azrael helps War pass through the Well of Souls to reach Eden and then later gives him the Mask of Shadows. War never kills Azrael in the game and it is presumed that he is still alive at the conclusion of Darksiders.

[edit] Uriel

Main article: Uriel

Uriel becomes the leader of the Angels on Earth after Abaddon has been defeated. She blames War for the loss of the End War and seeks vengeance. She battles with War at The Dry Road, when War is searching for the Armageddon Shards. At the end of Darksiders, Uriel stabs a sword through War, fulfilling the Death Oath, but after the Seventh Seal has been crushed, War is revived. The game concludes with Uriel asking War if he will fight this battle alone, at which War says he won't fight it alone, implying his fellow Horsemen will fight alongside him.

[edit] Enemies

Throughout Darksiders, there are several types of enemy Angels that War will encounter.

[edit] Light Angel

Main article: Light Angel

Light Angels are airborne soldiers of light that are armed with a melee weapon that doubles as a ranged weapon known as an Angelic Lance.

[edit] Angel Champion

Main article: Angel Champion

Angelic Champions are large Angelic warriors that wield a sword made of energy and a huge shield. These angels are much stronger than their soldier counterparts.

[edit] Ortho

Main article: Ortho

The Ortho, also known as the Angelic Beast, is a large flying creature that Angels use for aerial support. War uses an Ortho to reach the Twilight Cathedral.

[edit] Fallen Angels

Main article: Fallen Angel

Fallen Angels are almost identical to Hellguard Angels except for their pale or red appearance. The pale Fallen Angels first appear in The Ashlands, while the red counterparts appear in The Black Throne.

[edit] Fallen

Main article: Fallen

These are former Angels that have since been lured by the Demons of Hell.
