The Crossblade is the first ranged item that War acquires in Darksiders. It is a shuriken, or as it is referred in the west, a throwing star or ninja star.

[edit] Overview

There are many profane weapons scattered about the ash of Man's kingdom. Few can match the speed and lethality of the Croassblade. It is a cluster of four blades that can be thrown with brutal force. After arcing deep into flesh, the Crossblade returns to its wielder's hand, ready to be thrown again.

And if that were not enough, the weapon carries an additional, malevolent secret. The Crossblade can absorb the properties of certain elements it passes through - such as fire and plague - and translate them into further mutilation. Even the mightiest of the Dark One's legions would dread a warrior who brandished a weapon of such devastating power.

[edit] Darksiders

The Crossblade is a dungeon item that is found within the Twilight Cathedral. War must use this item to progress further in the dungeon, as well as to defeat the dungeon mini-boss, The Jailer, and the dungeon boss Tiamat. When War first acquires the Crossblade, he will earn the Elemental Thief Achievement or Trophy. The Crossblade can be used as a weapon, but it is most effective in solving puzzles.

[edit] Puzzle Solving

War can utilize the Crossblade in a number of puzzles. Since the Crossblade is a ranged item, it will allow War to hit distant switches, which often times open doors or shift War's surroundings. War can also use the Crossblade to transfer elements such as fire. In the Twilight Cathedral, War will use the Crossblade to first target a lit torch, and then target an inactive bomb. This will cause the crossblade to carry the fire over to the bomb and explode it.

[edit] As a Weapon

The Crossblade can be used against enemies, but it is very weak and will take a long time to kill even basic enemies. However, it can be useful against extremely simple enemies such as Duskwings. In battles with more powerful enemies, the Crossblade isn't very useful in actually decreasing their health, but it can be used to stun enemies in place. War can toss the crossblade, stun the the enemy, and then run up to it and deliver a combination of attacks with his Chaoseater or Scythe.

The crossblade can be better used as a weapon after it has been fully upgraded. In particular, after War acquires the Legendary Enhancement, Strife's Offering, the power of all ranged weapons will increase, including the crossblade. Additionally, there three upgrades that War can purchase from Vulgrim that will increase the abilities of the Crossblade.

[edit] Upgrades

There are three upgrades that War can purchase for the Crossblade. These are all available after War has acquired the Crossblade and speaks to Vulgrim.

  • Ricochet Blade: Can be purchased for 500 Souls. This item causes the Crossblade to ricochet between enemies near the initial target.
  • Ricochet Haze: Can be purchased for 1500 Souls after War has purchased the Ricochet Blade. This will boost the number of ricochet attacks done by the Crossblade.
  • The Shredder: Can be purchased for 5000 Souls. All charged attacks with the Crossblade will now reap Wrath Souls from enemies.

[edit] Trivia

  • The Crossblade shares a lot of similarities to the Glaive from the Dark Sector video game.
  • The Crossblade also shares many of the same characteristics as the Gale Boomerang from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
