The Destroyed City is the primary setting of Darksiders.

Overview

The Destroyed City is the partial remains of Earth. Once a flourishing city where humans lived and prospered, the city was destroyed during the Apocalypse. The city is now in ruin, although structures from their past environments are still more or less intact. The former human residents have since taken a more demonic look and mindset in the form of Wicked and Undead.

The remains of the human population were left in The Ashlands, an area that is now completely covered and appears as a desert-like area.

Locations

• Seraphim Hotel - An introductory area where War first appears after The Charred Council allows him to return to Earth.
• The Crossroads - An early area where War will first meet up with the Demon merchant, Vulgrim.
• Scalding Gallow - Samael's Prison is located in the middle of this region. This also serves as a central hub, connected many of the various regions of the Destroyed City.
• The Choking Grounds - The ruins of a former park, this region serves as a further introductory area before leading to The Broken Stair.
• The Broken Stair - A series of highways that have since collapsed. War will reach this area by passing through The Choking Grounds. War will meet up with the angelic beast, Ortho, allowing him to travel across the Echo Gorge.
• Echo Gorge - A massive area that can only be traversed when War is riding atop Ortho. It connects the Broken Stair to the Twilight Cathedral.
• Twilight Cathedral - The location of the first dungeon and home of the Dusk Queen Tiamat. It can only be reached while riding on top of Ortho across the Echo Gorge.
• Drowned Pass - West of the Scalding Gallow, it is a water filled area that leads to Anvil's Ford.
• Anvil's Ford - Home of the Black Hammer, Ulthane. It is also the location of the second dungeon, The Hollow.
• The Hollow - Deep within Anvil's Ford, The Hollow is the second dungeon of the game and home of The Griever.
• The Dry Road - Located north of the Scalding Gallow it is the pathway that leads to The Ashlands.
• The Ashlands - The third dungeon of the game and home of The Stygian. It is a massive open area that is filled with the demonic Ashworms.
• Iron Canopy - Located at the edge of The Ashlands, it is the fourth dungeon of the game and the home of Silitha.
• The Black Throne - The stronghold of The Destroyer. It is the fifth dungeon that is ruled by Straga. It can only be reached by gathering all four of the Hearts of the Chosen and then bringing them to Samael.

Other Locations

• Eden - Not directly a part of the Destroyed City, Eden is a long forgotten paradise, home of the Tree of Knowledge.
• Heaven - Sometimes referred to as The White City, it is the home of the Angels. Heaven is never actually shown in the game.
• Hell - Home of the Demons, Hell is never featured in the game.
