Dust is Death's trusty raven companion. He frequently can be seen perched on top of Death's shoulder. Dusk serves a similar companion role in Darksiders II as The Watcher did in Darksiders. Dust is believed to be neither living nor dead.[1][2]

While in dungeons, if Death finds himself getting stuck, he can summon Dust. Dust will then fly in the direction that Death must go and will start to caw. Dusk basically works as a helper in showing the path where Death must travel to.
