[edit] Overview

The Charred Council is not adverse to evil. If anything, they embrace it as part of the balance they've sworn to protect. The Watcher is a trouble example of such tolerance. Spiteful, fast-talking, and cruel, he is one of the Council's most trusted servants.

The Watcher delights in the suffering of others. Empowered by the Council, he flagrantly tortures and humiliates his charges, dropping poisonous insults and sarcasm onto their prostrate forms. In Darksiders he serves the Council by following War around the Destroyed City.

[edit] Darksiders

After the pre-mature start of the Apocalypse, War was sent to The Charred Council and was given a chance to return to Earth. The Council assigned The Watcher to serve as War's companion throughout his quest. He often times will give War advice, but he is also quite cruel to War. The Watcher does have a sister who was killed for verifying the pre-mature start of the Apocalypse. The Watcher's sister confirmed that the Seventh Seal was still intact and that War and joined the battle. The Watcher's sister went to earth without proper permission. It is speculated that The Watcher is so cruel to War because of what happened to his sister. He often times refers to War as being a dog on a leash.

Throughout War's quest, the Watcher will direct War to accomplish certain tasks and speak to various characters. The Council has given the Watcher the power to kill war if he does fall out of line. Throughout the journey, the Watcher will showcase his power of War by restraining him and repeating that he is the one that is in control.

During an encounter with Samael, War is instructed to kill the Watcher by Samael. War did end up hitting the Watcher, but he stopped short of actually killing him, which Samael viewed as a sign of weakness. Despite War's dealings with Samael, The Watcher is very distrustful of Samael and advises War throughout his quest not to go along with his plan. In particular after War has collected all four of the Heart of the Chosen, Samael will open a portal leading to the Black Throne. The Watcher is concerned and tells War that this could be a trap leading to Hell. Later on during The Black Throne, the Watcher advises War to kill Azrael, after hearing he was an accomplice to Abaddon in bring the pre-mature start of the Apocalypse.

After War kills The Destroyer and takes the Seventh Seal, the Watcher will restrain War and take the seal from him. Uriel will step in and try to take the seal from him, but he is unsuccessful in doing so. Uriel will then take the Armageddon Blade out of the body of Abaddon and will stab it straight through War's chest. The Watcher will be left in shock, at which Uriel then attacks the Watcher and cuts off his arm, breaking the seventh seal in the process. With the breaking of the seal, War is Resurrected, and precedes to crush his head with his left hand, killing him in the process.

[edit] Trivia

  • The Watcher is the only character in the game to swear. After Abaddon has been and Uriel tries to help War, The Watcher calls her a whore, and then later a "Hellguard Bitch" after Uriel cuts off his Arm.
  • His comments are also somewhat anachronistic. For example, before fighting The Destroyer with the Armageddon Blade in hand, he will tell War "This is for all of the cookies, Horseman. Prepare yourself."
